MRI
Valley County Health System now offers
permanent MRI services. No more waiting for the mobile unit to arrive on
specific days. Now MRI scans are available every day of the week.
What is an MRI?
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive and safe way of looking inside the body. Instead of X-rays, the MRI scanner uses a powerful magnet, radio waves and a computer to produce remarkably clear pictures of your head, spine or other parts of your body to distinguish normal, healthy tissue from diseased tissue.
MR imaging of the body is performed to evaluate:
- Conditions such as tumors, diseases and other abnormalities
- Organs of the chest and abdomen-including the heart, liver, kidney, spleen, pancreas and adrenal glands
- Pelvic organs, including the reproductive organs in the male (prostate and testicles) and the female (uterus, cervix and ovaries)
- Blood vessels
- Breasts
Does an MRI Hurt?
Absolutely not. MRI itself is a painless procedure that has virtually no side effects. To date, millions of patients have experienced MRI and the procedure has been proved to be extremely safe. In fact, since MRI uses harmless radio waves and magnetization, it is considered to be safer than other radiological techniques.
Faster, More Detailed Exams with the Essenza MRI
We
offer MRI exams on the Siemens MAGNETOM Essenza MRI. Ultimately, the
Essenza MRI offers more comfort for our patients and high-quality images for
our physicians. More exams can be performed with the patient's head and feet
outside of the magnet due to the MRI's ultra-short bore. Plus, exams are faster
due to the Essenza's advanced Tim (Total imaging matrix) technology.
The Essenza's strong magnet supports a complete range of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, breast imaging, oncology and pediatric imaging.
Employee Recognition
Gold Star Award
Sue Diehl
Sue did a fantastic presentation to the Board and Management Team regarding
what the imaging department does and how each area works. It was
informative, educational and timely. Sue was able to take complex diagnostic
scans and explain them so that each person could understand and was engaged
through the entire presentation. The variety of diagnostic scans that are
available at VCHS is remarkable. Thank you for the wonderful
presentation.
Congratulations!
