Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists are educated to facilitate patients' return to performing functional and meaningful activities of daily living more independently. Whether the debility is due to injury, disease, or deconditioning, occupational therapy can maximize independence and function in a wide variety of patient ages and functional levels.
Occupational therapy at VCHS includes a wide variety of care, including:
- Hand therapy for those suffering from injury, cumulative trauma, or disease
- Custom fabricated orthotics for elbows, wrists, hands, and fingers
- Ergonomic assessment and intervention to maximize safety and wellness in work environments
- Wheelchair management including assessment and training
- ADL (activities of daily living) retraining using adaptive equipment, modified techniques, and/or environmental modifications
- Recommendations for home modifications to allow people to remain in their home longer and safer
- Neuromotor re-education to increase functional status following a stroke or other central nervous system insult
- Driving Assessments
- Balance and fall assessments

New Facility Update: Week of August 23
During the weeks of August 16 & 23, the new hospital project continued to approach final completion. Final clean-up in the acute care, medical clinic and specialty clinic occurred. The remaining trim out is nearing completion and the boiler and HVAC control were started. Miscellaneous paint touch up was underway and office furniture was continuing to be installed. The oxygen tank was installed and the fire sprinkler system was tested. The 16 patient beds were delivered and installed in Acute Care.
