Disaster Drill A Team Effort
ORD - A collaboration between the Ord Volunteer Fire Department, Cargill AgHorizons, Valley County Sheriff's Department, City of Ord Police Department and Valley County Health System resulted in a successful disaster drill on Thursday, September 10, 2009.
In the drill, the Ord Volunteer Fire Department was called into action to Cargill in Ord around 5 pm. There were four injuries of Cargill employees as a result of a grain bin explosion. The department triaged the injuries, rescued all four victims from the scene of the accident and transported them via ambulance to Valley County Health System Emergency Department where they were treated and released. The VCHS paramedics intercepted at the scene and assisted in the transport of the patients to the emergency department.
Ord Fire Chief Larry Copp stated, "This drill was intended to prepare our firemen as well as other emergency personnel in the event a real disaster does happen in the future. I would like to thank the employees at Cargill, local law enforcement and hospital providers, paramedics, nurses and other staff for their efforts with the drill."
