Prien Establishes Memorial In Memory of Wife

May 9, 2011

John Prien, Ord High Alum, has established a charitable memorial fund to honor the life and memory of his wife, Joanne Frances (Eppard) Prien.  Mr. Prien's hope in starting the "Joanne Frances (Eppard) Prien Memorial" is that others will join in the giving spirit that Joanne shared with him during their marriage.

Joanne's husband, John, was born on a farm in Mira Valley and attended Midvale rural school until graduating from Ord High School in 1948.  He was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Ord High School in 2001.  Mr. Prien's giving spirit and sense of community duty are clear in his participation in church & charitable organizations, and have extended to his "roots" here as well.  Mr. Prien's uncle, Gerhardt Malottke, spent the last ten years of his life at the Valley View Living Center, and through a major contribution from Gerhardt's estate, sufficient funds were raised to fund most of the construction of "The Atrium" addition to the Living Center.  Currently, Mr. Prien serves as Chairman of the City of Gainesville/Hall County (Georgia) Hospital Authority in Gainesville, Georgia and is also a Trustee of the 500-bed Northeast Georgia Medical Center, which again shows his passion and support of local hospitals.

If you would like to make a donation to the "Joanne Frances (Eppard) Prien Memorial", please mail your donation to the Foundation: 400 South 23rd, Ord, NE, 68862.  For more information, contact Becky Ries at 308-728-3011 or at foundation@valleycountyhospital.org.
