VCHS Diabetic Ed Program Recertified
Valley County Health System's Diabetic Education Program has been recertified for another 4 years. The VCHS Diabetes Education and Self-Management Program is a satellite clinic of Bryan LGH who is an American Diabetes Association accredited program. Bryan LGH has 18 diabetes education sites within the Heartland Health Alliance.
Patient statistics are gathered at each site and submitted to the American Diabetes Association. One of the statistics is the average decrease in the Hemoglobin A1C which is an average of the patient's blood sugars over the past 2-3 months. On average, a 1% drop in the A1C level can decrease a person's risk for micro vascular complications (those involving damage of the eyes, kidneys, and nerves) can be decreased by 40%. As a total of the 18 sites combined, 87% of patients lowered their A1C level by an average of 1.7%. At Valley County Health System, our patients saw an average 2.3% drop in their A1C levels, helping patients significantly reduce their risk for health complications.
