VCHS Earns Trauma Re-Designation
Valley County Health System has received notification of re-designation as a Basic Level Trauma Center for another four years. The designation remains in effect until October 23, 2014.
VCHS first went through the required process to become a Basic Level Trauma Center on Oct. 23, 2006. The role of a basic trauma center is to stabilize, prepare and transfer all patients with potentially life threatening injuries. With this level, VCHS is required to maintain certain continuing education for nursing and must have a nurse who has passed the trauma nursing core course available 24/7. VCHS has a quality assurance process to monitor trauma and holds quarterly Trauma Team meetings to review cases.
