Providers, staff at VCHS receive high-tech training from statewide mobile simulation lab

ORD, Neb. –Valley County Health System (VCHS) providers, nurses and paramedics participated in medical and trauma training at VCHS in the statewide mobile simulation lab on Apr. 12.

The Nebraska Simulation in Motion (SIM-NE) is a training experience designed to increase life-saving training opportunities for rural emergency medical providers and hospitals through the use of mobile high-tech simulation trucks.

Training with the SIM-NE truck was conducted at VCHS in 2017 and covered common medical and emergency equipment, including cardiac defibrillators, stretchers and resuscitation equipment. This year, staff were trained in pediatric trauma along with a birth scenario.

The bus, which is sponsored by UNMC and a grant from the Leona and Harry B Hemsley Charitable Trust, features dual slide out extensions with a simulated emergency room and ambulance with high tech computerized mannequins that talk, breathe, have heart beats and can react to medications and other actions by participants.

“The SIM-NE bus is a very valuable tool for critical access hospitals like VCHS,” VCHS Nurse Manager Amy Jackson, RN, said. “Opportunities like this would not be possible without the Helmsley Charitable Trust and coordination of Nebraska Medicine that focuses on premier education programs and extraordinary patient care.”
