Sandoz, RN, Receives Patriot Award

ORD, Neb. – Valley County Health System (VCHS) Emergency Services Manager Jen Sandoz, RN, was recently awarded the Patriot Award from the Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The ESGR is a Department of Defense program, and its Patriot Award recognizes an employer's efforts to support enlisted citizens, including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment and granting leaves of absence if needed.

Matthew Graves, EMT-B, who is enlisted as a Sergeant in the Nebraska National Guard and currently in Cuba, nominated Sandoz.

The nomination read, "Jen has been very supportive of me in everything. She has understood when I have to leave for classes or meetings with just a day's notice. She has [...] encouraged and supported everything I do for the Nebraska National Guard. I feel like I never miss a beat from being gone for drill, schools or meetings because she is always keeping me in the loop through email or other communication. Without my employer’s support, I wouldn’t be able to do my job in the Nebraska National Guard. It is supervisors like this that make the life of a service member easier to handle with everything we have to do.”

Sandoz was presented the award from Brian Magiera, a local United States veteran.
