VCHS to Join Statewide Health Information Exchange to Improve Care Coordination

ORD, Neb. – In July, Valley County Health System (VCHS) will join the Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII) – a secure, web-based health information exchange aimed at improving care coordination statewide.

Using health data from participating members – including hospitals, clinics, health insurance companies and pharmacies – NeHII provides a comprehensive view of a patient’s medical history. This system allows the information to be available in emergencies, or in an event that a VCHS patient receives care from a provider in another part of the state. Participating members can see relevant patient information such as lab results, x-ray reports and medication prescriptions.

“Health information exchanges increase care coordination, improve patient care and help control healthcare costs,” VCHS CEO Nancy Glaubke said. “Our patients are our number one priority, and by joining NeHII, we are further improving their overall healthcare regardless of where they are in the state at any time.”

NeHII, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with thousands of participating providers and dozens of participating hospitals and health systems across Nebraska and western Iowa. VCHS patient information will be included beginning in July 2017. Patient participation in NeHII is strongly encouraged, but a patient may opt out by contacting NeHII or at www.connectnebraska.net.
