Waltman passes mammography boards

ORD – Valley County Health System (VCHS) Registered Technologist in Radiography and Computed Tomography Lindsey Waltman, RT (R)(M)(CT), recently passed her mammography boards through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

The certification process includes a 40 hour basic mammography training course along with an 8 hour digital breast tomosynthesis course.  Before completing the exam, technologists must complete 25 supervised mammograms followed by 75 solo mammograms.  There are also hours of training and testing of the mammography machine and shadowing of radiologists.

The 140 question certification exam requires hours of studying and preparation.  It consists of three categories: patient care, imaging production and procedures.  The purpose of the ARRT exam is to assess the knowledge and cognitive skills underlying the performance of the tasks typically required of staff technologists.

“I am excited to start performing mammos at VCHS,” Waltman said.  “Offering services such as this is crucial to our rural area.  Being able to provide expert care with state-of-the-art equipment close to home is very rewarding.”  Waltman has been a RT at VCHS since 2007.
