Dr. Hilary Miller

Her nomination reads:

 

In May of 2025, I experienced a major flare of my autoimmune disease. My disease can be extremely painful, exhausting, and, if not treated effectively, life-threatening. After multiple months and changing treatment options, I found minor relief until I started a steroid taper in December of 2025. I flared again, severely, and was incredibly ill. My annual check-up with Dr. Miller was also planned in December, so I decided to ask what I could do for alternatives, as I was very frustrated with my specialist. Dr. Miller sat with me for a long while, demonstrating a tremendous amount of empathy and care that I had not received in the 7 months of issues I had with my specialist, and recommended I seek a second opinion at a different specialist in Omaha to address both my concerns and degrading health outcomes.

 

The result of that was me moving my treatment to a new specialist at Nebraska Medicine, a prompt response to changes in care and medication, timely and effective movement on prior authorizations to get the new medication, and a new sense of hope after over 20 years with my prior specialist. I was concerned about switching specialists after so long, and Dr. Miller gave me the confidence and support I needed to make the jump. My health outcomes have improved, as has my mental health, and I would not have had the wherewithal to do this without her. I am deeply touched by her concern and support, and I owe her a debt of gratitude for listening to me when I felt lost and hopeless.
