What is a CT Scan?

A computed tomography (CT) scan uses X-rays to make detailed pictures of structures inside the human body. A CT scan can be used to study any body organ, such as the liver, pancreas, intestines, kidneys, adrenal glands, lungs, and heart. It also can study blood vessels, bones, and the spinal cord. At VCHS, our advanced equipment (Siemens SOMATOM Definition AS 20-slice CT) intelligently adapts to each patient, physician, and clinical task – pediatric, obese, stroke, cardiac, trauma, 3-D minimal invasive, complex, and routine – allowing even the most complex patients to be imaged rapidly without difficulty. It also produces coverage in any organ in 4-D and provides added dose protection for every patient.
