MRI

Valley County Health System offers MRI services on-site every day of the week.

What is an MRI?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive, painless, and safe way of looking inside the body. Instead of X-rays, the MRI scanner uses a powerful magnet, radio waves, and a computer to produce remarkably clear pictures of your head, spine, or other parts of your body to distinguish normal, healthy tissue from diseased tissue.

MR imaging of the body is performed to evaluate:

  • Conditions such as tumors, diseases and other abnormalities
  • Organs of the chest and abdomen-including the heart, liver, kidney, spleen, pancreas and adrenal glands
  • Pelvic organs, including the reproductive organs in the male (prostate and testicles) and the female (uterus, cervix and ovaries)
  • Blood vessels

VCHS uses the Siemens MAGNETOM Altea MRI to perform MRIs. This advanced equipment provides comfort for our patients and high-quality images for our physicians, completing a range of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, breast imaging, oncology, and pediatric imaging.
