Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists are educated to facilitate patients' return to performing functional and meaningful activities of daily living more independently. Whether the debility is due to injury, disease, or deconditioning, occupational therapy can maximize independence and function in a wide variety of patient ages and functional levels.

Occupational therapy at VCHS includes a wide variety of care, including:

• Hand therapy for those suffering from injury, cumulative trauma, or disease
• Ergonomic assessment and intervention to maximize safety and wellness in work environments
• Wheelchair management including assessment and training
• ADL (activities of daily living) retraining using adaptive equipment, modified techniques, and/or environmental modifications
• Recommendations for home modifications to allow people to remain in their home longer and safer
• Neuromotor re-education to increase functional status following a stroke or other central nervous system insult
• Balance and fall assessments
