Cathryn Ward, MD, named VCHS Chief of Staff

Cathryn Ward, MD, has been named the Valley County Health System (VCHS) Chief of Staff.

As Chief of Staff, Ward acts as the liaison and advisor between VCHS administration and medical staff, as well as oversees physician credentialing, education and quality assurance. VCHS currently has a nine-person medical staff, with five MDs and four advanced practitioners.  Greg McClanahan was voted Vice President, Nathan Harms, MD, was voted Secretary and Hilary Miller, MD Past-president of the medical staff for the upcoming year. Sarah Smyth, PA, Johanna Spencer, APRN-NP, Hallie Yantzie, APRN-NP, and Tessa Welniak, APRN-NP, are the four advanced practitioners on the VCHS medical staff.

Ward, MD, has been with VCHS since 2022 and sees patients at the VCHS Medical Clinics in Ord and Burwell as well as in the Emergency Department at the Hospital in Ord. Dr. Ward grew up in the small town of Cairo, Nebraska, and graduated from Centura Public Schools. She then went on to Chadron State College followed by Medical School at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Ward completed her Family Medicine Residency at the Lincoln Family Medicine Program in Lincoln, Nebraska.

In her free time, Dr. Ward enjoys spending time with her husband, Kyle, and their daughters, Rylee and Payton, as well as their dogs.
