First Round of COVID-19 Vaccine Given to VCHS Front Line Workers

Valley County Health System (VCHS) received its first allotment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday, December 22nd.  Shortly after its arrival, the preparations for administration began and by that afternoon 30 of VCHS front line workers had received the first of the two shot series. The second shot will be administered in one month. Each recipient received a pin that says “I got my COVID-19 Vaccine” with the hope that this message rings loud and clear; we trust the science behind this vaccine. The remaining vaccinations will be rolled out to staff next week according to CDC criteria. Any unused doses will be given to the Loup Basin Public Health Department for redistribution.

“I feel fortunate to be among the few to get this vaccine today,” VCHS Chief of Staff Dr. Jennifer Bengston, says. “This is truly the best gift we could receive this holiday season. I look forward to seeing our other front line workers vaccinated and await the day our patients and community members can do the same.”

Providers, EMTs, Nurses, Housekeepers and many other staff members have been looking forward to this day since the beginning of the pandemic.

The supply of COVID-19 vaccinations is limited and will be allocated to healthcare personnel and long-term care facilities at this time.  VCHS will notify the public when the vaccination distribution categories expand.
