Hansen earns State & National Pharmacy Technician certifications

Kirstyn Hansen, NE/NAT-CPhT, CSPT, 340B ACE; Pharmacy Tech at Valley County Health System (VCHS), earned her Nebraska Pharmacy Technician (NE-CPhT) certification from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in March of 2020 and has recently earned her National Pharmacy Technician certification (NAT-CPhT) in May of 2021.

A Pharmacy technician job involves patient care. The tech works under the supervision of a Pharmacist to supply medication to patients, prepare sterile medications, purchase and manage inventory and manage automated dispensing systems, just to name a few tasks.

On her path to the CPhT certifications, Hansen was required to complete online modules, lectures as well as self-led learning and studying. The certification process is driven by the ability of the pharmacy technicians to gain practice-specific foundation knowledge and skills in the right conditions, at the right time and in the right location. Hansen sat and passed two separate exams to earn these certifications.  Next year she will begin working toward her Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician certification.

Since joining the VCHS team in 2019, Hansen has not only received her CPhT certifications but her Compounded Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT) certification, 340B Apexus Certified Expert (ACE) certification and Immunization certification. Hansen’s driven attitude and willingness to learn makes her a huge asset to the Pharmacy team.

“Hansen performs vital functions to support the patient care efforts of the pharmacy team with roles and responsibilities that continue to innovatively expand and evolve,” says VCHS Pharmacy Manager Tracy Reiner, RPh. “She gladly accepts any and all challenges. As a result of her hard work and dedication, she will be promoted to lead pharmacy technician in August.”
