VCHS Home Health and Hospice Earn High Patient, Caregiver Rankings Nationally

ORD, Neb. – Valley County Health System (VCHS) Home Health and Hospice recently earned national recognition for their top 20 percent patient and caregiver satisfaction rankings.

Strategic Healthcare Program (SHP) – a national healthcare quality surveyor – recognized VCHS Home Health with the SHP Best Home Health Patient Satisfaction Award and VCHS Hospice with the SHP Best Hospice Caregiver Satisfaction Award. The rankings, which were released earlier this month, were determined by the overall score for VCHS against all eligible providers SHP served during 2016.

“We have a dedicated team of skilled nurses, aides and therapists who truly care about their patients,” VCHS Home Health and Hospice Director Carol Schroeder. “We work to personally meet the needs of each patient and their family.”

Based in Ord, Neb., VCHS Home Health and Hospice serves patients and their families in 11 Nebraska counties: Valley, Sherman, Garfield, Loup, Custer, Wheeler, Greeley, Howard, Hall, Buffalo and Rock. VCHS clinicians made nearly 17,000 total visits – including home health, hospice and private/Veteran’s Affairs – in 2016, logging approximately 350,000 miles traveling to provide care.

Home Health services include skilled nursing, personal bath cares, occupational, physical and speech therapy and social work, with an RN available on-call 24/7. Hospice is available for patients with a life expectancy of six months or less and provides a holistic approach to making a patient’s remaining time as fulfilling and comfortable as possible. Volunteers and chaplains donate hundreds of hours of their time to assist staff in caring for patients and supporting their families every year too.

The department also participates in the We Honor Veterans program – a partnership of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and Department of Veterans Affairs.
