Oldaker, PT, Completes Additional Pelvic Floor Rehab Training, Expanding VCHS Rehab Offerings

ORD, Neb. – Valley County Health System’s (VHCS) Lindsey Oldaker, PT, recently completed additional pelvic floor rehabilitation training, leading to expanded VCHS pelvic rehabilitation services.

Pelvic rehabilitation is a specialty, non-surgical approach that utilizes behavioral strategies, manual techniques, exercise, education and functional retraining to address conditions that contribute to bowel, bladder, sexual health and pain complaints. Commonly treated pelvic dysfunctions include constipation, fecal incontinence, urinary leakage, urinary retention, pain with sexual function, erectile dysfunction and pelvic, genital, groin, urethral and tailbone pain.

Oldaker, who has provided general physical therapy services to patients primarily at the VCHS Rehabilitation Center, Burwell location since 2010, began also providing specialized pelvic rehabilitation services in 2015.

The most recent training – Pelvic Floor Level 2A through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute – focused on fecal incontinence and constipation.

“This training expanded my knowledge about the physiology of the gut and how the pelvic floor plays a role in our regular and irregular bowel movement,” Oldaker said. “This helps me [as a therapist] focus on a patient’s impaired area and work on proper nutrition, pelvic floor strengthening or relaxation and overall education.”

Through a tailored exercise program, manual treatment and self-care instruction, pelvic rehabilitation at VCHS can help reduce symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction and strengthen the pelvic floor muscle. This allows patients to improve their quality of life and overall health. Oldaker is trained to treat both men and women, with an emphasis on women’s health.
