Hospice, Heritage Program at VCHS Partner to Offer Revamped Grief Support Group

ORD, Neb. – Beginning Nov. 30, Valley County Health System (VCHS) will offer a revamped monthly grief support group aimed at providing healing, education and support for those facing loss or hardship. The Heritage Program for Seniors at VCHS and the VCHS Hospice Department are partnering to lead the group  – “Healing Hearts: A Grief Support Group” – with Riley Smith, PLCSW, PLMHP, Macaela Haas, PLMHP, and Jennifer Zach, CSW, CDP facilitating.

“Grief support groups can be instrumental in helping people feel less isolated as they move forward at their own pace and in their own way when working through their grief,” Smith said. “VCHS has long offered grief support, and this revamped program will build upon past success to even better meet the needs of participants going forward.”

This free support group will meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. the last Thursday of every month (November to October) for a total of twelve sessions. Sessions will be held at the Heritage Program for Seniors at VCHS 110 S. 26th St., Ord. Individuals of any age are encouraged to participate, and sessions are confidential.

Topics to be covered include:

  • The Nature of Grief
  • Managing Difficult Emotions
  • Nurturing the Wounded Self
  • Remembering the One Who Died
  • Making Needed Adjustments
  • Coping with Stress of Change
  • Reaching Out for Support
  • Handling Special Occasions

“Talking with providers and other healthcare professionals in the area, we know there are many individuals who could benefit from participating in Healing Hearts, and we encourage anyone facing difficulty dealing with a loss or hardship to reach out and join us,” Zach said.

Pre-registration is required. Call the VCHS Heritage Program at 308.728.4340 to pre-register or for more information.
