Thiel earns Certified Endoscope Reprocessor certification

ORD, Neb. – Julie Thiel, CRCST, CIS, a sterile processor/scrub tech at Valley County Health System (VCHS), recently earned her Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) certification from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).

Sterile processing has seen necessary modifications, especially in the area of endoscope reprocessing. To ensure that reprocessing professionals have the skills and knowledge needed for this specialty, IAHCSMM has developed the CER exam to test the individual’s proficiency in pre-cleaning, testing, decontamination, inspection, sterilization, transport and storage of endoscopes.  The CER certification recognizes Thiel’s knowledge and skills in accordance with industry standards and guidelines. Thiel was required to demonstrate hands-on work experience along with the CER exam to earn the certification.

“Julie’s knowledge and skills in this area are a great asset to Valley County Health System,” says Julie Klimek, RN & Surgery Manager. “We are grateful for her dedication to providing the safest and highest quality of care to our patients.”
