VCHS celebrates 100th knee replacement surgery

ORD, Neb. – Valley County Health System (VCHS) recently celebrated the 100th knee replacement surgery performed in the VCHS Surgery Department since their move into the new facility in October 2010.

The knee replacement surgery was performed by Frank Lesiak, M.D., and Trevor Engelson, P.A. of Central NE Orthopedics out of Grand Island.  The honored patient, Timothy Edwards of Loup City, was showered with balloons, photos and a gift certificate to an area restaurant.  “We have a remarkable surgery team at VCHS,” said Nancy Glaubke, CEO.  “We are so proud of this accomplishment and we are honored to serve so many patients in our community and surrounding areas.”

The VCHS Surgery Department consists of eight employees.  Along with knee replacement surgeries, the staff assists Lesiak in a number of other procedures at VCHS such as, shoulder scopes with rotator cuff repair, knee scopes and various hand and elbow surgeries.

This surgery team has had no surgical site infections with a knee replacement surgery; another impressive accomplishment of this exceptional department.  “We have an amazing and dedicated surgery team,” Julie Klimek, RN and Surgery Manager said.  “These doctors, nurses and scrub techs bring exceptional knowledge to the table every day.  We are very fortunate to have them at VCHS.”
