VCHS Home Health receives superior rating for patient satisfaction

ORD, Neb. – Valley County Health System (VCHS) Home Health recently earned national recognition for ranking in the top 20 percent in patient satisfaction.

Strategic Healthcare Program (SHP) – a national healthcare quality surveyor – recognized VCHS Home Health with the SHP Best Home Health Patient Satisfaction Award. The ranking, which was released in July, was determined by the overall score for VCHS against all eligible providers SHP served during 2017.

“Our team of skilled nurses, aides and therapists is truly dedicated to their patients,” VCHS Home Health and Hospice Director Carol Schroeder. “We work hard to meet the individual needs of each patient and their family.”

Based in Ord, Neb., VCHS Home Health and Hospice serves patients and their families in 11 Nebraska counties: Valley, Sherman, Garfield, Loup, Custer, Wheeler, Greeley, Howard, Hall, Buffalo and Rock. VCHS clinicians made nearly 14,500 total visits – including home health, hospice and private/Veteran’s Affairs – in 2017, logging approximately 327,683 miles traveling to provide care.

Home Health services include skilled nursing, personal bath cares, occupational, physical and speech therapy and social work, with an RN available on-call 24/7. Hospice is available for patients with a life expectancy of six months or less and provides a holistic approach to making a patient’s remaining time as fulfilling and comfortable as possible. Volunteers and chaplains donated over 600 hours of their time in 2017 to assist staff in caring for patients and supporting their families.

The department also participates in the We Honor Veterans program – a partnership of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and Department of Veterans Affairs.
